David I. Weissman
480-240-5636
David Weissman leads RLG’s Employment Law Department. He concentrates his practice on the representation of management in employment law and litigation matters, advising employers on health care options in light of the new federal law mandating health insurance, and is experienced in all aspects of employment litigation in federal and state courts. He also advises clients on administrative agency proceedings, ADR proceedings, reductions in force analyses, employee manual and policy reviews, and traditional labor matters, and provides day-to-day counseling on hiring, discipline, termination and other employment related issues.
Prior to joining RLG, David was a partner in the Phoenix office of a national labor and employment law firm. Before that he served as general counsel for two Arizona-based companies: a successful home furnishings Internet retail company, SelectShops, and prior to that, Arizona’s most well known retail bedding company, Sleep America. During his time with these companies, David was responsible for all legal matters, including counseling management on HR related legal issues, reviewing all contracts, policies and procedures, conducting training seminars for company supervisors, and managing all claims and litigation. He also managed the day to day operations of the human resources department as well as the companies' benefits and insurance programs, and was instrumental in implementing richer benefit platforms at a significantly reduced cost. Prior to his in-house counsel experience, David practiced for a number of years as an employment lawyer and a litigator at several large Chicago law firms.
David earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 1997, where he served as Editor at Large for the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and won the West Publishing Outstanding Scholastic Achievement Book Award. He earned his bachelor’s degree in Government from Colby College in Waterville, Maine. David is licensed to practice in both Arizona and Illinois.
