Todd Lakey graduated from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 1990 with a bachelor’s degree in International Business and a Minor in Spanish. In 1993 he received his Juris Doctorate from Lewis and Clark Northwestern School of Law in Portland, Oregon and was a member of the Cornelius Honor Society. Mr. Lakey’s busy practice focuses on land use and zoning, real estate, property development, municipal and county law and government relations.

Mr. Lakey worked as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for Canyon County spending most of his time as Civil Counsel to the County Elected Officials. At the encouragement of one of the retiring County Commissioners, he ran for and was elected as County Commissioner for Canyon County taking office in 1999. Immediately after taking office he was elected Chairman of the Commission and served in that capacity for his entire five and one half year tenure in office.

As a Commissioner, Mr. Lakey was actively involved in the Idaho Association of Counties and other entities comprised of local elected officials. He rose through the ranks of these organizations to serve in several leadership positions. He was elected by his fellow County Commissioners and Clerks as President of the Idaho Association of Commissioners and Clerks. The Mayors, County Commissioners and Highway District Commissioners in Canyon and Ada Counties elected him to serve as Chairman of the Community Planning Association of Southwest Idaho (COMPASS) which is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for Canyon and Ada Counties. Todd was also elected by his fellow local officials to serve as Chairman of ValleyRide, the regional public transportation authority for Canyon and Ada Counties. He served as President of the Treasure Valley Partnership which is a cooperative group comprised of Mayors and County Commissioners from Canyon and Ada Counties dealing with growth issues in the Treasure Valley.

Mr. Lakey actively served on the Board of Directors for the Idaho Association of Counties. He also chaired the Idaho Association of Counties legislative committee and led the lobbying efforts for the Counties with the Idaho State Legislature. He also served on the board of directors for the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program (ICRMP) and served as Chairman of the National Association of Counties (NACO) subcommittee on liability.

Mr. Lakey worked on various Boards of Directors including Ida-Ore Planning and Economic Development, Boise State University Canyon County Advisory Group, Healthy Nampa Healthy Youth, Nampa Chamber of Commerce, Caldwell Chamber of Commerce, Boise Metro Chamber Economic Development Council and the Western Idaho Youth and Family Coalition. He holds the rank of Major in the United States Army Reserves, Judge Advocate General Corps.

Mr. Lakey enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. He continues to serve in political leadership at the state and local level. He also volunteers his time in various church and youth activities and groups and wishes he had more time for basketball and fly fishing.
