SolarCity has moved into expanded facilities in Phoenix as the system installer prepares to step up work.

The company plans to hire 20 to 30 workers in the next few months and could double its current base of about 60 employees by the end of the year.

The office, at 1725 W. Williams in Phoenix, was designed to coordinate the 10 to 15 installation jobs the Foster City, Calif.-based SolarCity has in the region each day.

“We’ve run out of space in our existing installation facility to handle the demand for new solar projects in the area,” said Peter Rive, SolarCity’s chief operating officer.

SolarCity has worked on more than 1,000 projects in the Phoenix area since it opened its first local office about 19 months ago. In that time, most solar installers in the region have seen a marked increase in their number of jobs as federal tax breaks and utility incentives drive the market.

SolarCity was the first in Phoenix to bring a lease program that aims to make having a system installed more affordable. The company also has worked with the city of Phoenix, National Bank of Arizona, Arizona Public Service Co. and Salt River Project on a $25 million loan program to finance projects.
