MARICOPA — The widening of State Route 347 is officially in the state’s five-year plan after a vote Friday morning by the State Transportation Board.
After a wide variety of impassioned pleas from speakers such as Pinal County Supervisor Rich Vitiello, Maricopa City Councilmember Eric Goettl and Maricopa Mayor Nancy Smith, the board decided to use one of the alternative five-year plans of the Arizona Department of Transportation that included the widening, which has been the top priority in Maricopa for many years, among other large projects across the state.

Those on the board evidently understood the need for these improvements on SR 347 and heard the people of Maricopa loud and clear. As such, rather than leaving out the 347 or postponing any other major road projects, they decided to defer pavement renewal and improvement in a few areas, essentially doing their best to accommodate the most vital projects on the allowed budget.
The project would specifically widen the highway between the Maricopa city limits and the Pinal County boundary with Maricopa County. The stretch in Maricopa County is already being worked on thanks to the Maricopa Association of Governments.

Commenting on the big vote, Rose Law Group Founder and President Jordan Rose, tells RLGR:
“What a great day for the city of Maricopa and Pinal County. Congratulations to Mayor Smith, the city of Maricopa, City Council, and Supervisor Vitiello on continuing to work to make life better for the residents!”
