By Mark Cowling | Pinal Central FLORENCE — By a strong majority vote of the residents, San Tan Valley suddenly became Pinal County’s largest town this summer. The task now is to help this “big baby” mature into a sustainable community, officials told a Pinal Partnership breakfast. “Listen, let’s be real about it: We are up to 100,000 people and we have nothing,” Mayor Daren Schnepf said. “This is an infant that’s already grown.” The Town Council’s task now is to work with the people for the things they’ve been wanting for years, he said. “We’re a baby, a very big baby,” about 37½ square miles, Vice Mayor Tyler Hudgins said. Also speaking at the November 7 breakfast were Buchanan Davis, who served on the incorporation committee, and County Supervisor Mike Goodman, R-San Tan Valley. People are impatient to see the “big baby” grow up, Davis said. He recalled open house attendees who said, “’We need to build a fine arts center.’ I’m thinking, ‘Yeah, in 100 years.’” Big projects will come but not overnight, he said. READ MORE:
