Gilbert Town Council has approved a 171-unit townhome development that would replace plans for a denser rental project on a Power Ranch property that has sat vacant for nearly two decades.

The council approved a minor general plan amendment and rezoning Sept. 15 for Woodcrest Village West, a 16.8-acre site at the southwest corner of Ranch House Parkway and Germann Road.

Jon Gillespie of Rose Law Group, representing the applicant, described the proposal as a “down zone and an upgrade” that could finally fill the long-vacant property.

“We work with your staff and the planning commission and have a recommendation from your staff and the planning commission to provide this really a down zone and an upgrade to fill out this long vacant site and provide a platted townhome product that we really think is in high demand, not only in the town but within Power Ranch,” Gillespie said.
