Durable General Power of Attorney

A Durable General Power of Attorney document allows you to legally appoint a person or persons (your “agent”) to make financial and legal decisions on your behalf, in the event you are incapacitated and unable to do so. It is important to ensure that this document is durable, or it will become invalid at the moment your physician determines you do not have the mental capacity to make decision for yourself.

Another commonly used power of attorney is a special power of attorney. These can be used for situations regarding minor children, vehicles and real estate. Anytime you need an agent to sign a legal document for you, on your behalf, a special power of attorney can be used.
