Attorneys representing the town of Florence will investigate and possibly take legal action against Florence Copper for installing two new monitoring wells beyond its state land boundary.

The town has refused to rezone Florence Copper’s land for an industrial use, forcing the company to plan its in-situ mining project on a 160-acre parcel of state land off Hunt Highway. The company has applied to state environmental regulators for an amendment to its operating permit for the new wells.

The town council passed a resolution at Monday’s meeting to authorize attorneys to investigate and take action, potentially including legal action.
