Glendale City Council narrowly approved a change to the city zoning text amendment March 27 that allows the city’s medical marijuana dispensaries to increase their size and hours of operation.

The proposed zoning text amendment was brought by Tom Galvin of the Rose Law Group, who represents Arizona Organix Inc. The text amendment allows Arizona Organix to make changes to the requirements that currently allow dispensaries to be a maximum of 2,000 square feet and hours of operation from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. The amendment will now allow the dispensary to triple the maximum size to 6,000 square feet and extend hours of operation to 10 p.m.

Councilmembers voted 4-3 to approve the changes with Councilmembers Joyce Clark, Ray Malnar and Lauren Tolmachoff voting against the changes.
