The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess, one of the jewels in Scottsdale’s resort and spa crown, could soon be expanding.

The Scottsdale City Planning commission voted unanimously during its Feb. 28 meeting to recommend approval of a master plan update for the Princess, 7575 E. Princess Drive, that includes:

• A new, 10,000-square-foot Italian restaurant,
• A new, 35,000-square-foot conference center (which would be split between meeting room and ballroom space),
• 155 new guest hotel rooms, and
• A 4,500-square foot coffee/food shop.

Site improvements include a 56-parking space, under ground parking garage; a deceleration lane and driveway off of East Princess Boulevard and some sidewalk connections between the new Italian restaurant and conference center.

In exchange the hotel is asking for the new guest room wing height increase from the 36 feet currently allowed to 48 feet, updating the parking and open space requirements to match current standards and updating parking landscape islands to accommodate specials events in the existing self parking lot and the palomino self parking lot.
