FLORENCE — New architectural plans for the preservation of the Francisco Cuen House are finished and have been presented to the Town Council, and “it looks like we can save 85 to 90% of the original building,” co-owner Tom Smith told the Town Council.

Smith and his wife, Lynn, owners of the historic little adobe building at 11th and Main streets, presented an update to the council Monday. Smith expressed thanks to Mayor Tara Walter and the council, town staff and others who have helped the project along.

Although the exterior walls look good, they aren’t, Tom Smith said; they’ve been repaired with concrete, which has to come off. “It doesn’t match, or go well with adobe,” he said.

“This structure was my first case in Pinal County – to expand the then Qwest Switching facility over 20 years ago.” – Jordan Rose
