McAuliffe CLE Center, 4201 N. 24th Street, PhoenixTo Register: Live, Phoenix | Simulcast, Tucson | WebcastAcross the country, individual states are increasingly legalizing medical and recreational marijuana. At the November election, Arizonans, who have already approved medical marijuana, will vote whether to legalize recreational use. If approved, the initiative will exponentially grow the already burgeoning Arizona cannabis industry and create a host of new legal issues and conflicts to be resolved.

Our panel of experts will introduce practitioners to the legal cannabis industry, its unique business and legal issues, and how private law and alternative dispute resolution can be used to prevent and address the conflicts that will arise. The Arizona cannabis experience will be compared to that of Colorado, which approved recreational use in 2014.

Topics to be covered include:

  • An overview of the legal cannabis marketplace and business relationships.
  • Summary of Federal, Colorado and Arizona cannabis regulation.
  • Why ADR is of particular importance to the legal cannabis industry.
  • Drafting ADR contractual provisions specific to the needs of the cannabis industry.
  • Specific cannabis legal issues that may arise in Arizona practice, such as commercial contracts, partnership agreements, finance, intellectual property, legal ethics, and taxation, and how ADR and private law techniques can be used to resolve these issues.
  • Practical tips for mediating and arbitrating cannabis related disputes.
