Now that the political maneuvering is done and the Phoenix City Council approved a $230 million renovation of city-owned Talking Stick Resort Arena, the search is on for firms to actually do the work.

The Phoenix Suns, which play in the arena as well as manage the property, have issued two requests for qualifications, while the city of Phoenix is expected to issue its first RFQ on Feb. 28 for an owner’s representative to work directly with the city and monitor all aspects of the arena renovation project — and watch out for the city’s interests.

The city is looking to “cast as wide of a net as possible,” when searching for the right firm to handle this project, said Jeremy Legg, Phoenix’s special projects manager. He expects submissions to come in from all over the country, as well as from local groups.
