PHOENIX — Maricopa County broke ground on a new tabulation and election center on May 22, the county announced Monday.
Besides supporting election administration, the center is designed to allow the county to conduct pre-tabulation processing as well as ballot tabulation in a secure, efficient and transparent manner.
“When it comes to running elections, three things are of the utmost importance to me: following state law as prescribed by the Legislature, transparency and focusing on what best serves Maricopa County voters,” Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 2 Thomas Galvin said in a press release.
“This facility is a momentous step forward in achieving all three objectives and setting a new bar for how elections are run nationwide.”
The center is expected to open in summer 2027.

Maricopa County Press Release:
Phoenix, AZ (June 2, 2025) – Maricopa County has officially broken ground on a new, state-of-the-art tabulation and election center. Projected to open in Summer 2027 and designed to support election administration, this new facility will further support the County’s ability to conduct pre-tabulation processing and ballot tabulation in a secure, efficient, and transparent manner.
“When it comes to running elections, three things are of the utmost importance to me: following State law as prescribed by the Legislature, transparency, and focusing on what best serves Maricopa County voters,” said Thomas Galvin, Chairman of the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors, District 2. “This facility is a momentous step forward in achieving all three objectives and setting a new bar for how elections are run nationwide.”
The new facility is expected to triple the amount of available warehouse space for equipment storage and more than double pre-tabulation processing and ballot tabulation capacity.
“I have always believed that elections are about people – voters, first and foremost, but also about the people who plan for and administer elections,” said Vice Chair Kate Brophy McGee, District 3. “The project team that designed this building did so with a focus on people, and I truly believe that this facility is in the public’s best interest and will make our free and fair elections run even better.”
The new and improved facility will also contain command centers to support in-person voting, a space to train and process temporary election workers, expanded observation viewing areas, and a media-friendly space for election coverage.
“Responsible governance equals good business, and that invites trust from our customers: Maricopa County residents,” said Supervisor Mark Stewart, District 1. “As the county grows, we will continue to invest in solutions that prioritize customer service and voter integrity. This marks an exciting new chapter of efficiency and transparency. I will continue to work with the Recorder to ensure his needs are met while being mindful of taxpayer dollars.”
The facility has been thoughtfully designed by architecture firm DLR Group to feature a variety of security enhancements that will help keep elections staff, tabulation equipment, and ballots safe. Election functions that report up to both the Board of Supervisors and the Recorder’s Office will be housed there.
“All of us on the Board are united in our commitment to improving election administration in Maricopa County and building trust among voters,” said Supervisor Debbie Lesko, District 4. “We’ve done that by advocating for changes to state election law, approving a comprehensive, independent election audit, and now building this brand-new elections facility. It is my hope that the many steps we are taking will instill even more confidence in our elections processes.”
