With its wide open spaces and easy access to major freeways, Eloy has become an appealing location for several solar companies looking to move their panels to the area.
During last week’s Eloy City Council meeting, another solar farm with amended project changes came before the council, and was passed by a narrow 4-3 vote.
The solar project, titled Sawtooth Solar Energy Center, is being developed by EDF Power Solutions.
Court Rich, a representative for the project, presented the council with plans for 320 acres of land located on the southeast corner of West Milligan Road and South Curry Road, approximately 2 miles south of Interstate 10.
The agenda items consisted of planned area development changes that will allow for the use of large scale solar and battery storage.
During the public hearing, Vice Mayor Michelle Tarango and Councilmember JoAnne Galindo made their opinions on solar known, with the two of them joining Councilmember Jose Garcia as the “no” votes for the project.
